Liz walked quietly, sneaking up behind Will. She put her hand to his eyes covering them and waited for his reaction. He instantly pulled her hands away and swung around, grabbing her waist and hugging her tight.

“Surprise!” she said, almost laughing.

“You weren’t supposed to be back until tomorrow!” He laughed and hugged her tighter.

“That was just a decoy. Anna helped me set it up.” He laughed again and leaned his head into her hair taking her in. “It’s nice to see you too,” she laughed.

“Your knee is 100% fine? You won’t have a problem tonight?” he asked, concern in his voice.

She lifted her leg and bent her knee. “Good as new.” She looked around and sighed. “I missed this place.”

“This place missed you.”

“Liz!” Charlotte came from behind and squealed her name. “You’re back!”

“Yep.” She beamed

“You’re early! Your welcome back party isn’t until tomorrow.”

Will put his hand to his neck and moved it, motioning for Charlotte to shut up.

Liz stared at him. “I guess it’s a good thing I came back early then.”

“It was supposed to be a surprise,” he said, glaring at Charlotte.

Liz tied her apron around her waist and logged into the system. “What section do I have?”

“You’re shadowing me,” Will said with a straight face.

Liz laughed. “No, really.”

“I’m serious. You’re not leaving my side tonight.”

“I’ll make you a deal. If you let me work my own section, I’ll let you eat dinner with me while I count my tips.”

“Oh, I’m doing that anyway. I’m going to need something better than that.”

Liz rolled her eyes. “You’re not giving me special treatment are you?”

Mary squeezed past them clocking in. “Oh joy. You’re back,” she said sarcastically.

Liz bored her eyes into Will before turning to Mary. “It’s nice to see you too Mary. I heard I missed a lot of stuff. Congratulations to you and Collins.”

Mary rolled her eyes and pushed past again. “That’s over.”

“That was fast.” Liz said under her breath. Will tried to hold in a laugh.

“Seriously, what section?” she asked Will again.

“One.”

“Thank you,” she said, extending the u sound for emphasis, and walked past him to start her routine. She felt like she was home. Boy was she glad to be back! The evening went quickly but her stamina was gone. She was happy to rest at the bar and count her tips just like she always did and was thankful Collins hadn’t changed his habits either. He was in the cellar taking inventory and restocking the bar, leaving her in blissful solitude.

Will sat next to her and placed a dozen red roses in between them. She narrowed her eyes. “What are these?” She looked at them like they were a poisonous snake ready to snap at her.

“Since you are so stubborn and wouldn’t give me your address, I had to wait until now to give you your get well soon flowers.”

“You’re doing it again.”

“What?” He asked innocently.

“Singling me out. We are supposed to be friends. Friends don’t give each other flowers.”

“Yes they do. Especially when they’re sick!”

“Okay, maybe they do.
